Sacred Vestments

It is with the greatest and most sincere satisfaction that we greet the publication of the first volume in the “Terra Sancta Museum” series, dealing with the sacred vestments of
the Custody of the Holy Land. This work, edited by Maria Pia Pettinau Vescina, not only enhances the value of the sacred vestments but ultimately also encapsulates over four
centuries of history. It is a history of uninterrupted connections between Europe and the Holy Land, first with the european monarchies and royal dynasties and later with
the nation states, a history of liturgy and worship, of devotion and its external manifestations, translated into artistic canons, tastes and experiences altering over time and space.
